How Repaying Loans With Social Service Transforms Communities

“To whom much is given, much is expected.” As a first generation immigrant, college graduate and lawyer, I’ve always felt the weight of that saying immensely. It is why I knew that whatever success I’d have in my career and life should pour out and into my community. That it couldn’t stop with me or be all about me. That somehow I’d pay it forward and make this world a better place so that all the education, experiences and privileges I received would be worth it.

That’s why, ever since college, I’ve loved to listen to and read about innovative business ideas and social entrepreneurship. Recently, I came across this TED Talk and I found the concept of social interest fascinating.

So, why should you watch this video? Maybe you think it has nothing to do with you. But maybe it will be the video that sparks an idea in your head of how you or the company you work for can invest in your community. Maybe it will make you see political agendas differently. Maybe it will make you realize there is a need in your community that you know how to fill. Maybe it will make your world a bit more about others and less about yourself. Maybe this is the message you need to pay forward what you’ve been blessed to receive and experience.

Take a listen and let me know what you think!
