Tracing back in time before the job in the streets, I can remember a distinct moment in my parent’s kitchen. It was around 2021. I was standing there and I heard God almost audibly say “You’re going to see Roe v. Wade overturned.”
Read MoreIn the fall of 2015, I had been accepted to nursing school at my university, and I was in my first semester of what would be, unbeknownst to me, the hardest 2 years of my life. I came in bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, eager to learn. I felt that this was one of the next big steps into my journey of becoming a nurse.
Read MoreOn our trip out west, we visited some of the national parks in Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. As we were able to stand in awe of the magnificent creations, the above song always came to my mind. While I looked out at the views, I would find God there. As we watched the sun dip below the Grand Canyon, I could hear the many languages around me, and thought how cool it was that people of different nations and cultures all came together to witness God’s majesty together. When we would drive to our next destination of our trip, we would play worship music and enjoy the scenery, and I found God there, too.
Read MoreWe do a variety of things to try to be accepted by others. Whether it’s exercising so we can fit in with the cheerleaders, reading popular books to have something to talk about with nerds (like me!), or wearing new kicks and clothes to ingratiate ourselves with fashionistas, we all have a desire to fit in. To belong.
Read MoreThough intimidated, I admired her spirit and generosity. So we left our door open. As girls walked by to go to dinner, they would invite us to come, too. When they came back from their evening classes they would come into our room to talk. I remember one night perched on my bed, stunned by the number of girls that could fit into our tiny room. They sat on our desk chairs, and our beds, and spilled onto the floor. All because of an open door and my roommate’s welcoming smile.
Read MoreThis month we started asking why we didn’t receive more answers to our prayers. Then, God issued a challenge - are we ready to RECEIVE the answers to our prayers. It’s funny how that works. As Christians, we talk about prayer and the mighty work God can do. However, we forget the second half of the verse…believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. All of these years of prayer - and we forgot the second half of the verse!
Read MoreIf you cannot answer that question, it’s time to get out there! Find godly people and be open to being vulnerable, and begin living in the community. Ask God for direction if you are lost on where to turn. If you are able to answer this question, praise God! Thank him for the wonderful people in your life and then tell them you are thankful for them, too.
Read MoreOur enemy isn’t a weapon. It’s not even a broken, sinful man who committed a horrendous crime. It is a devil who laughs in the face of this incident. He rejoices to see the lives of innocent victims lost. As Christians, our response is “to overcome evil with good”. We cannot change what happens, but we can create acts of love from our Heavenly Father while here on earth.
Read MoreKindness cannot be overrated. It is the shield that softens the blows of life. It makes dark nights bearable, it is a company in times of tears, it builds up when words have been torn down, and can even make friends of enemies.
Read MoreI am BECOMING who God always intended me to be. At thirty years of age, I’ve done a lot but there is more to be done. There are some people who may not agree with my book. However, I have chosen to be real, authentic, and honest of my journey. This is more than my journey.
Read MoreI attend Malone University, a private Christian school in Canton, OH. The community comprises of students and faculty of various backgrounds. I’ve met students from different religious backgrounds and some who are non-religious, of different ethnic backgrounds, and so on. As a Christian school, Malone is affiliated with Evangelical Friends Church. Their community guidelines adhere to the church’s guidelines. Faculty members are expected to follow the guidelines more than students. One of the guidelines is that sex must be intimate between a man and a woman– same-sex relationships aren’t allowed. As you can imagine many people would be irked by this, and this is exactly what happened six months ago on October 11th. Malone’s president announced in an email that one of the female science professors is having a relationship with another woman and intends to get married this summer. When she approached the leadership she hoped for a compromise. Instead, she was asked to resign. Many students and alumni shared their grievances on Facebook and Instagram showing their support for the professor; most of whom were members of the LBGTQ+ community and supporters.
Read MoreSomething I’ve recently realized is this: “Every ending is a beginning & every beginning is an ending.” What does this mean? When we start something new, it means another thing is finished. Like the covenant of marriage, singleness must end for marriage to begin and marriage must begin for singleness to end. Life is complex this way. Joy mixed with sorrow, sorrow mixed with joy. If you ever want to study the complexities of this more in-depth, study the book of Ecclesiastes as Solomon walks through the seasons of life.
